The Project
The project began in 2009 as a sub-group of the St. Helens Towmships Family History Society with the aim of producing a book about the battalion in time for the centenary of its founding in September 1914.
Three limited edition books were published: the story of The Pals, an officer's diary, and a volume of brief biographies of those who served with the battalion.
Research continues and any contributions, stories or photos of this unit or the men who served in it are welcome.
The project was supported by a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund, and assistance from the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Manchester.
